Marauders battle hard in four set defeat to the Jimmies

BISMARCK, ND – Despite double-digit kills by Holli Klettheimer and Judith Burke, the University of Mary volleyball team (4-11, 2-5 Northern Sun) was defeated in four sets (25-16, 18-25, 25-18, 25-18) at home by the University of Jamestown (12-3, 5-2 NSIC).

UMary recorded 43 kills on a .155 attack percentage, while UJ posted 55 kills on a .290 attack percentage. The Marauders put up 42 assists and tied their season high in aces (9), while the Jimmies had 53 assists and six aces.

The Jimmies jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set. The Marauders attempted to battle back but could not overcome the UJ attack, falling 25-18.

UMary responded with an impressive second set, going on 7-1 and 6-0 runs to win 25-18. The set-winning kill came when Natalie Boehmer assisted Holli Klettheimer on her fourth kill of the period. The Marauders finished the second set with a dominant .484 attack percentage.

The third set saw UMary jump out to a 10-5 lead. The Jimmies responded with a 5-0 run to take away the Marauders momentum. UJ claimed nine of the next 12 points to take the set 25-18.

UMary fell behind 13-7 to start the fourth set. The Marauders went on a 5-0 run to cut the Jimmies lead to 13-12. UMary was unable to tie the score, and UJ ended the match on a 6-1 run to claim the set 25-18.

The Marauders finished the game by putting up eight blocks and 51 digs. The Jimmies had six blocks and 57 digs.

Norah Thome had a career-high 22 digs.

Judith Burke had a team-high 13 kills. Burke also contributed seven digs and three aces.

Holli Klettheimer recorded 11 kills on a .250 hitting percentage and had five blocks.

Natalie Boehmer led the team in assists (37) and aces (5).

Peyton Hohn had a team-best six blocks and four kills.

Gabrielle Reynolds posted nine kills and four digs.

Ruby Rengo had six kills on a .333 attack percentage.

Chloe Solheid added seven digs.

Karina Hixon contributed six digs.
