BURNSVILLE, MN – Following a great performance at the Marauders Home Opener, University of Mary cross country junior
Gideon Hammah and
Tori Stepka were named the Northern Sun's Athletes of the Week.
For Hammah, it is the second time he has been named the conference's athlete of the week. He won the race and was the only runner to finish below 25 minutes in a field that featured Division I athletes. His 8k time of 24:51.3 is the third-best of his career and led to his second cross country victory.
Stepka had the best race of her career, placing 2
nd with only a Division I runner ahead of her. Her 6k time of 21:36.4 blew away her previous best, wiping away nearly 40 seconds from her PR. Both the men's and women's teams placed 2
nd at the season-opening meet.
UMary cross country will travel to the Augustana Invitational for their next meet on Sept. 25. The meet will be held at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, SD, where the NSIC Championships and NCAA Central Region Championships will be held.
