Early goals costly as Marauders fall to #5 Mavericks

MANKATO, MN – Two days after overcoming a two-goal deficit to earn a draw in their Northern Sun opener, the University of Mary women's soccer team was unable to conjure up a second rally on the weekend in a 3-0 loss at #5 Minnesota State University.

The Marauders outshot the Mavericks 18-13 but UMary was unable to match Minnesota State's goal production.

The Mavericks scored twice in the first four minutes of play. At 2:52, UMary was called for a foul in the penalty area and Amara Smith delivered on the penalty. Minnesota State doubled its lead just 40 seconds later. The Mavericks closed the scoring just before intermission, finding the net in the 43'.

UMary pushed hard to get back in the game, outshooting MSU 10-6 in the second half but wasn't able to place any shots on frame. For the contest the Mavericks held the edge in shots on target (9-2), corner kicks (5-4) and fouls (11-5).

Kadyn Dilger posted six saves for the Marauders. Maggie Bono fired off five shots and Dina Polanco added three. Chloe Brand and Ivy Wessel each had a shot on frame.

After four straight road games, the Marauders return home for four straight home games. UMary opens the home stand with a visit from Concordia-St. Paul in a White Out Match on Friday, September 18. Kickoff is 3 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
