Marauders fall to Bulldogs in NSIC opener

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary volleyball team (2-7, 0-1 Northern Sun) battled hard but fell in three sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-17) to the University of Minnesota Duluth (8-1, 1-0 NSIC) in the Marauders first conference match of the season.

UMary recorded 29 kills on a .140 hitting percentage, while UMD posted 50 kills on a .410 hitting percentage. The Marauders had 27 assists and four aces, while the Bulldogs had 47 assists and five aces.

The first set was a back-and-forth contest with both teams exchanging leads. The Marauders led 17-13, but the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run to tie. UMary regained a 21-20 lead, but a 5-0 run by UMD secured the set win 25-21.

The Bulldogs dominated the second set, taking it down 25-21. The Marauders showed improvement in the third set, taking an early 10-6 lead. UMD finished the third set by winning 11 of the last 13 points to win the final set 25-17.

The match finished with the Marauders recording three blocks and 32 digs. The Bulldogs put up five blocks and 42 digs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Norah Thome had a career-high 14 digs.

Natalie Boehmer recorded 24 assists and ten digs.

Judith Burke had a team-best seven kills to go along with five digs.

Ruby Rengo had six kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage. Rengo also contributed two blocks.

Myra Newman put up six kills.
