BISMARCK, ND –
Holli Klettheimer capped off an impressive first week of the season by tying her career-best kills total and posting season bests in kills, hitting percentage and blocks for the University of Mary on the final day of the inaugural Marauders Fist Serve Invitational.
Facing Western New Mexico University for the first time in her career, the UMary middle blocker delivered 13 kills for the Marauders while hitting a stunning .500 for the match. She was also involved in five blocks, including three solo stuffs.
This was the second straight match Klettheimer reached double digits in kills and the third straight with a hitting percentage above .400. For the four-game invite, the junior from Frankton, IN, averaged 2.75 kills/set. She leads the team with a .379 hitting percentage and .78 blocks/set.
Gabrielle Reynolds also wrapped up an impressive start to her Marauders career, contributing ten kills and seven digs. The transfer from Cameron University has reached double figures for kills in all four games.
Judith Burke and
Dani Highum both chipped in nine kills for UMary.
Natalie Boehmer had a double double for the Marauders with 44 kills and 11 digs.
Karina Hixon chipped in a team-best 16 digs.
Using a balanced attack featuring a trio of players with 11 kills, Western New Mexico raced past UMary in four sets. The Mustangs claimed the first two sets by identical 25-19 scores. The Marauders stayed alive with a 25-22 win in the third set before WNMU closed out the match with a 25-12 win in set four for the first Mustangs victory of the season.
Isabella Brewer recorded 11 kills and 12 digs for the Mustangs. Brynlee Barris added 11 kills, three aces and four block assists. Daphne Posthumus also had 11 kills to go with eight block assists. All three had only two attack errors each and hit at least .360 in the game.
UMary conclude the weekend 2-2 while WNMU is 1-3.
Next up for the Marauders are four games at the Sioux Falls Volleyball Classic in Sioux Falls, SD. UMary opens the tournament against host Augustana in a non-conference match at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 3, at the Sanford Pentagon. On Friday, September 4, UMary will play Emporia State (10 am) and Black Hills State (4 pm) at the Stewart Center before facing Chadron State on Saturday, September 5, back at the Sanford Pentagon.
