WAYNE, NE – The University of Mary softball team (13-31, 3-19 Northern Sun) fell in a doubleheader on the road to Wayne State College. UMary lost 9-1 in game one and 14-0 in game two.
The Marauders next doubleheader is on the road against Augustana University on Saturday, April 25, at noon in Sioux Falls, SD.
GAME 1 University of Mary 1 WSC 9 F/6
Missed opportunities would plague UMary in game one. The Marauders loaded the bases to open the top of the first inning. Kennadi Borngrebe would strike out the next three UMary batters to keep the game scoreless.
A solo home run in the bottom of the second inning gave WSC the lead. The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
The bases would be loaded again for the Marauders with no outs in the fourth. After two straight strikeouts, Lalaina Baker was hit by a pitch to score Madison Schamanski. UMary did not bring in any more runs.
WSC exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, securing a 9-1 victory for the Wildcats. The Marauders finished the game with four hits and six walks, while the Wildcats had 12 hits and four walks.

Olivia Gomez went 1-for-2 with one walk.
Kaitlyn McLaughlin went 1-for-3
Claire Tompkins went 1-for-3.
GAME 2 University of Mary 0 WSC 14 F/5
WSC dominated game two. The Wildcats scored 14 runs over the course of four innings. Starting pitcher Taylor Coleman did not allow a single hit and walked two batters in a five-inning shutout.
Daisy Sparrow, Kaitlyn McLaughlin, and Cassidy Bagnell were the only Marauders to reach base. Bagnell and Sparrow both drew walks, while McLaughlin reached on a throwing error by the Wildcats third baseman.
