VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – After a strong weekend at the NSIC Championships, three University of Mary track and field athletes have officially qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Tayen Werner and
Laila Cleare will represent the women's team while
Kenny Moxey Jr. will represent the men's team.
Tayen Werner is the 5
th seed in the 400m Dash among 18 qualifiers. The sophomore's qualifying time was achieved at the SDSU Classic on Feb. 14, when she broke her own school record, clocking in at 53.93. Werner went on to win the NSIC Championship in the event, and also took home the win in the 4x400m relay last weekend. Werner returns to the national stage after earning All-American honors as part of the 4x400m Relay during the 2025 outdoor season.
Kenny Moxey Jr. is the 7
th seed in the Heptathlon in a field of 16 qualifiers. The sophomore was on the bubble going into last weekend, ranked 14
th in the event. He went on to break his own school record and won the NSIC Championship with a 5252. This will be Moxey Jr.'s NCAA Championship debut.
Laila Cleare is the 14
th seed in the 60m Dash in a field of 18 qualifiers. Cleare went into the NSIC Championships on the bubble, ranking 16
th in the nation in the event. The senior improved her season-best time in Saturday's finals with a 7.43, placing 2
nd. This will be Cleare's 4
th time competing at Nationals.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on March 13 and 14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
