Marauders fall in doubleheader to CSP

ST. CLOUD, MN – The University of Mary softball team (10-14, 0-2 Northern Sun) fell in their conference opener to Concordia-St. Paul (13-12, 2-0 NSIC) 4-0 and 3-0 in a doubleheader.

UMary will stay in St. Cloud, MN, to compete against St. Cloud State University on Sunday, March 22, at 10 am.

GAME 1 University of Mary 0 CSP 4

The Golden Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. The Marauders had batters reach in six out of the seven innings but failed to score as CSP won 4-0.

Jayleen Rojas got the start and pitched her first complete game of the season, pitching six innings and allowing four runs.

The Marauders recorded six hits and one walk, while the Golden Bears had eight hits and two walks.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Bree Waldron went 2-for-3 with one double.

Jenel Mallari went 1-for-2 with one walk.

Ariana Retuta went 1-for-3

Kaitlyn McLaughlin 1-for-4.

GAME 2 University of Mary 0 CSP 3

CSP took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second and added on another run in the fifth to make it a 3-0 ballgame. The Marauders would have a batter reach in the first five innings, but were unable to capitalize. The Golden Bears would shut down UMary in the final two innings to secure the win.

Arria Johnson threw her fifth complete game of the season. Johnson pitched six innings and allowed only one earned run.

The Marauders finished with three hits and three walks, while the Golden Bears had eight hits and no walks.
