Senior Day success as #11 Marauders finish sweep of Waldorf in home finale

MANDAN, ND – A four-goal second period explosion drove the #11 University of Mary men's hockey team to a 6-1 win over visiting Waldorf University on Senior Day for the Marauders. Alex Senf led the way for UMary with two goals and David Loahr and Joe Gronholz had a goal and an assist.

In UMary's final home game and last regular-season game of 2025-26, the Marauders celebrated eight seniors during the victory as Amraj Gill, Michael Heitkamp, Liam Massie, Lucas Medeiros, Dain Sardelli, Jake Murray, Derek Dropik and Palmer Sinclair made their final home appearance for the Marauders.

UMary improves to 24-12-0-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 21-12-0-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1. Waldorf is 13-17-1-0-0-1 overall.

Senf opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period at 6:34.

Waldorf scored its lone goal of the weekend when Jordan Adams found the net just 98 seconds into the second period to draw the Warriors even at 1-1.

It took just 66 seconds for UMary to regain the lead when Sinclair scored at 2:54 with help from his fellow senior Massie and Lyndon Orr.

The Marauders took control of the game on the backside of the second period. Loahr tallied at 13:55 and Senf found the net for a second time just 44 seconds later.

Hunter Mangan put the exclamation mark on the Marauders second period outburst with a goal just 15 seconds before the middle stanza expired with Loahr and Dropik, a senior forward, providing the assistance.

Gronholz scored the only goal of the final period when he scored shorthanded at 7:46 with the help of two seniors as Medeiros and Dropik earned assists. It was the second helper of the night for Dropik.

The Marauders penalty kill unit had a tremendous night, holding the Warriors without a goal in seven power play opportunities while also scoring a shorthanded goal.

Waldorf's penalty kill was also impressive as UMary failed to score in four opportunities with an extra skater.

Cross had a second straight strong game in net. After posting a shutout in the Marauders 4-0 win on Friday, Cross allowed just a single goal Saturday and stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced. For the weekend Cross turned aside 44 of the 45 shots attempted by the Warriors.

Andrew Tworkowski made 40 saves in the game for Waldorf as UMary held a 46-26 shot advantage.

The Marauders open postseason play at the Midwest College Hockey playoffs on Friday, February 22. UMary, the 3rd seed, faces 6th seed Iowa State University in the opening round of the MCH tournament at 4 pm. The tournament will be played at the Albert Lea City Arena in Albert Lea, MN. Waldorf University is the playoff host for the 3-day event. The tournament champion claims the Lindsay Cup and earns an automatic berth in the ACHA Men's Division 1 national tournament.
