SIOUX FALLS, SD – In a matchup between two teams in the regional rankings, the University of Mary women's soccer team went on the road and knocked off Augustana 3-1. The victory extended the Marauders win streak to five games.
The Marauders (6-2-2 overall, 5-1-1 Northern Sun) entered the game ranked 10
th in the NCAA Division II Central Region women's soccer poll released September 29 by Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches (IWSOC) in Partnership with United Soccer Coaches. Augustana (5-2-3, 3-2-2) ranked 5
th in the regional poll.
UMary opened the scoring on an own goal by Augie just 3:48 into the match when the Vikings goalkeeper misplayed a ball played back to her by one of her defenders.
Bella Kozlowski doubled the Marauders lead in the 30'. Picking up a failed clearing attempt by the Vikings, Kozlowski drove a left-footed shot from the top left of the penalty area into the lower right corner of the goal.
Dina Polanco, the leading goal scorer in the Northern Sun, found the net for the 9
th time this season less than two minutes into the second half.
Chloe Brand took a long arcing shot towards the net. Beating everyone to the aerial ball, Polanco headed a ball from the right side of the goal box just inside the right post for a 3-0 UMary lead.
Augie, which held the advantage in shots (14-6), shots on frame (8-5) and corner kicks (10-1), scored its lone goal in the 80'.
Kadyn Dilger, the reigning NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week, made seven saves in the game.
