WINONA, MN – The reigning NSIC North Player of the Week,
Allison Undlin, helped lead the University of Mary women's basketball team (18-6, 11-4 Northern Sun) to a hard-fought 66-58 road win over Winona State University (12-9, 9-6 NSIC).
The Marauders have won three in a row and five of their last six. UMary remains tied for third in the NSIC standings.
Allison Undlin tied her career-high in scoring with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Bergan Kinnebrew recorded 12 points and three rebounds.
Chloe Pfau led the Marauders with nine rebounds to go along with ten points.
Eden Fridley posted nine points, five rebounds, and three steals.
Anna Lenzen had five points and five rebounds.
Emily Jaenke dropped five points off the bench.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as WSU would grab a 16-15 lead after 12 minutes of action. The Marauders defense, highlighted by keeping the Warriors scoreless for five minutes, dominated in the second quarter, as UMary headed into halftime with a 31-24 lead.
The Warriors outscored the Marauders 14-12 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 43-38. With UMary holding a two-point lead with 4:32 remaining,
Bergan Kinnebrew scored a layup and drew the foul to complete the three-point play.
Chloe Pfau would then knock down a transition three on an assist by Kinnebrew to give the Marauders an eight-point lead with 3:46 left in the game.
Eden Fridley and Kinnebrew combined to knock down eight free throws to secure a 66-58 UMary victory.
UMary shot 22-of-52 (42.3%) from the field and 4-of-17 (23.5%) from behind the arc, while holding WSU to 21-of-61 (34.4%) from the floor and 5-of-20 (25%) from three. The Marauders shot 18-of-19 (94.7%) from the free-throw line, while the Warriors went 11-of-18 (61.1%) from the charity stripe.
UMary outrebounded WSU 39-36. The Marauders committed 20 turnovers, and the Warriors had 17 giveaways.
The Marauders travel to St. Paul, MN, to challenge Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, January 31, at 2:00 pm.
