BISMARCK, ND - The #12 University of Mary wrestling team (8-4, 4-2 NSIC) battled hard but would see their comeback effort fall just short as Minnesota State University, Mankato (12-3, 5-1 NSIC) would come out on top 17-16.

The dual began with the Mavericks winning the 125-pound weight class by a major decision. Gabe Mortensen lost a close contest at 133 pounds by a 6-5 decision to Chase Beckett.

#4 Sean Solis got the Marauders on the board at 141 pounds, defeating Colton Hush by an 11-3 major decision. Kale Baumann fell to #13 Walker Bentz by a 4-1 decision at 149 pounds.

#14 Kaden Renner scored a late takedown, but it would not be enough as he fell by a 5-3 decision to #8 Caleb Meunier at 157 pounds.

Lane Ewing impressed at 165 pounds after he defeated Paolo Salminen by a 13-8 decision. MSU scored a major decision in the 174-pound weight class to take a 17-9 lead.

Sam Bruss got UMary back on track after he grinded out a 7-5 decision over Evan Farley. Emery Slater made the score 17-13 by defeating Grant Cook by a 14-7 decision in the 189-pound weight class.

Needing a major decision to tie the score, #3 Luke Tweeton would defeat Callen Smithpeter by a 9-2 decision at heavyweight. Tweeton scored two takedowns in the third period and got two points on stall calls, but would fall one point short of getting a major decision.

The Marauders travel to Kenosha, WI, to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, January 31, at 7 pm.
