Offensive explosion pushes Marauders past Wildcats 91-87

BISMARCK, ND – Bergan Kinnebrew and Allison Undlin combined for 50 points as the University of Mary women's basketball team (16-6, 9-4 Northern Sun) defeated Wayne State College (9-10, 4-9 NSIC) 91-87 at home.

Allison Undlin recorded a career-high 25 points, shooting 10-of-16 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Undlin has scored a career-high in points in three straight games. The Mohall, ND, native dominated in the paint, producing nine rebounds and three blocks.

Bergan Kinnebrew dropped 25 points, six steals, and four assists. Kinnebrew shot 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. Anna Lenzen had 14 points and six rebounds, as she shot 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from three.

Chloe Pfau posted 14 points and eight rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Eden Fridley dished out seven assists and brought down five rebounds. Emily Jaenke came off the bench to score six points.

The Marauders took control early in the first quarter and finished with a 23-13 lead. The Wildcats would respond with an impressive second quarter, outscoring UMary 26-16 to tie the game at 39-39.

UMary scored the first eight points in the third quarter and would go into the fourth quarter with a 64-59 lead. The Marauders would grow their lead to as big as 12 with 4:24 remaining. WSC rallied and would make it a two-point game with 23 seconds remaining and a chance to tie and take the lead.

The Marauders were able to force a miss, and Chloe Pfau grabbed the rebound and was fouled to go to the line with 20 seconds left. Pfau split the free throws to give UMary a three-point lead. UMary would force another miss, but the Wildcats would grab the offensive rebound. Before WSC got another chance to tie the game, Bergan Kinnebrew would steal the pass and knock down two free throws to give the Marauders a five-point lead with nine seconds remaining. After WSC hit a layup, Cassie Erickson would knock down a free-throw to secure a 91-87 Marauders victory.

UMary shot 30-of-62 (47.4%) from the field and 12-of-27 (44.4%) from three, while WSC went 30-of-65 (46.2%) from the floor and 9-of-17 (52.9%) from behind the arc. The Marauders shot 19-of-25 (76%) from the free-throw line, while the Wildcats went 18-of-24 (75%) from the charity stripe.

UMary controlled the glass, outrebounding WSC 40-32. The Marauders committed 16 turnovers, and the Wildcats had 14 giveaways.

UMary hosts Augustana University on Saturday, January 24, in the McDowell Activity Center at 3:30 pm.
