MARSHALL, MN – Despite a career night for
Allison Undlin, the University of Mary women's basketball team (15-6, 8-4 Northern Sun) would fall short 89-75 on the road against Southwest Minnesota State University (10-7, 8-4 NSIC).
For the second day in a row, Undlin recorded a career-high in points. The Mohall, ND, native scored 22 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field and 1-of-2 from three. Undlin has scored double-digit points in 12 straight games.
Bergan Kinnebrew produced 17 points, eight assists, and four steals.
Anna Lenzen posted 11 points and three blocks.
Emily Jaenke led all bench scorers with 11 points.
Chloe Pfau had eight points and six rebounds.
The Mustangs ended the first quarter on a 13-4 run to take a 21-12 lead. The Marauders cut the lead to six points halfway through the second quarter. SMSU would again end the quarter on a strong run to hold a 42-26 lead heading into halftime.
UMary showed grit in the third quarter, outscoring SMSU 22-15 to make it a nine-point game. The Mustangs would catch fire on offense in the fourth quarter and took down the 89-75 victory.
UMary shot 27-of-57 (47.4%) from the field and 6-of-18 (21.4%) from behind the arc, while SMSU went 29-of-56 (51.8%) from the floor and 7-of-11 (63.6%) from three. The Marauders shot 15-of-19 (78.9%) from the free-throw line, while the Mustangs went 24-of-26 (92.3%) from the charity stripe.
UMary struggled on the glass, losing the rebounding battle 41-47 to SCSU. The Marauders committed 10 turnovers, and the Mustangs had 14 giveaways.
The Marauders return home to welcome Wayne State College to the McDowell Activity Center on Friday, January 23, at 5:30 pm.
