Hammah leads Marauders to runner-up finish in season-opening Marauders Invitational

BISMARCK, ND – Racing on the University of Mary's home course at McDowell Dam, Gideon Hammah opened the 2025 cross country season in impressive fashion with a second-place finish at the Marauders Invitational.

A sophomore from North Apowa, Ghana, Hammah covered the 8000 meter course in just 25:05.9. The 2024 2nd team All-Norther Sun performer finished just 7.5 seconds behind Jacob Knodle of NCAA Division I North Dakota State University.

Two-time All-NSIC performer Caleb Hansen finished 8th overall, covering the course in 25:42.3. Hansen and Hammah were the only NCAA Division II runners to place in the top 14 overall as UMary claimed second to NDSU in the six-team meet.

"The men's team is just at the beginning of what we will look like towards the end," said Marauders Head Coach Chris Lessard. "We are having some early season success with a lot of young talent showing through."

Senior Raine Skjod placed 15th overall (26:43.9) while sophomores Joseph Ringhand (27:10.6) and Nick Lind (27:11.1) finished 20th and 21st, respectively, to round out the scoring for UMary.

NDSU placed first with a team score of 21, followed by UMary (54), Bismarck State College (83), Minot State University (117), Dickinson State University (124) and Dawson Community College (163).

The Marauders next compete at the Roy Griak Invitational on September 19.
