Marauders earn split to open 2025 season at Eagle Classic

CHADRON, NE – The University of Mary volleyball team earned a split to open the 2025 season at the Eagle Classic. The Marauders fell in their first matchup, 3-0, to Northern State University, but rallied back to take down Black Hills State University, 3-1.

Head coach Rob Frost picked up his first victory in charge of the UMary volleyball program.

UMary vs BHSU
The Marauders took down the final four points to win the first set 25-16. BHSU then responded by winning a hard-fought second set by a 25-23 score.

The third set was tied at 13-13 when UMary went on a 12-2 run to take control of the match. The Marauders dominated the fourth set 25-13 to earn a 3-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Judith Burke was electric as she delivered a team-best 16 kills on a .343 attack percentage. Burke also added 10 digs and two aces.

Holli Klettheimer dominated in the attack, posting 13 kills on a .500 hitting percentage.

Maddy Freed recorded a team-high 29 assists to go along with six digs and three aces.

Katie Bleeker led the Marauders with 21 digs.

Natalie Boehmer contributed 21 assists and five digs.

UMary Vs NSU
The Marauders fell behind early to the Wolves, losing the first set 25-12. UMary competed well in the second after falling behind 14-4. UMary went on an 11-6 run to make the score 20-15. The rally in the second set fell short as NSU would win 25-19.

The Wolves cruised to a 25-7 win in the third set to earn the sweep.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Judith Burke led the team in kills with nine on a .250 attack percentage while also contributing four digs.

Katie Bleeker made her collegiate debut and led the team with five digs.

Maddy Freed and Natalie Boehmer both contributed 11 assists and three digs.

Dani Highum added six kills and two aces.

UP NEXT  
The Marauders conclude the Eagle Classic with two games on Saturday, September 6. UMary opens the day against Saint Martin's University at 10 am and finishes the tournament against the hosts, Chadron State College, at 2 pm.
