Marauders Clays team rolls to conference title

BISMARCK, ND – Displaying calm nerves and steady focus throughout all kinds of spring weather conditions, the University of Mary Clays team topped their competition to claim the conference title. In just their second year of competition, the Marauders finished first in the 2025 USA College Clay Target League Spring Trap Overall Standings.
 
Janine Warne led the way by topping the conference's female leaderboard for the spring season. Overall the Marauders featured three of the top eight men and two of the top six women in the 13-team league.
 
Under the direction of Head Coach Mark Sandness, the Marauders easily outpaced the competition during the 5-week season. UMary posted a total final score of 1,339.50 over five shooting dates to easily outpace runner-up State Technical College of Missouri, which posted a total of 1,203.00.
 
UMary posted the top score in each of the five weeks. In an incredible close week one, the Marauders registered a score of 236.5, just ahead of Wilmington (OH) College (236.0) and Sate Technical College of Missouri (235.0). The Marauders also narrowly edged out State Technical college in week three 261-260.5. UMary captured all other weeks by at least 23.5 points.
 
The largest margin came in week four when the Marauders posted a season-best 291 points, outpacing the opposition by 55 points. 
 
On the final week of the conference season, Warne was the top women's scorer in the league after hitting on 47 out of 50 shots. Martin Brazil and Josh Kubarii were right behind Warne for the UMary scoring lead as the duo both knocked down 46 clays.
 
Warne had a tremendous season for UMary. The Marauders team captain posted an average score of 22.60. The conference runner-up averaged a score of 21.80.
 
Nakhya Ibach also finished strong, ranking sixth among women with an average score of 20.70.
 
Led by Brett Finley and Martin Brazil, the UMary men also had a strong spring season. Finley and Brazil tied for fifth on the conference leaderboard as both averaged a score of 22.60 per round.
 
Timothy Elmer was right on their heels, knocking down 22.40 clays per round to rank eighth in the league.
