Bismarck, ND – After picking up a doubleheader split against the defending Northern Sun champions on Saturday, the University of Mary baseball hopes of finding more success on Sunday were dashed by big innings by Augustana University. The Vikings claimed the opener 10-0 before completing the sweep with a 17-7 victory in game two.
GAME 1: Augustana 10 University of Mary 0
The Vikings broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Ethan Cole held the Marauders to four hits while pitching six shutout innings to earn the win for the Vikings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Cullen Wilson went three innings for the Marauders. The freshman allowed just one hit and no runs in the first two innings before loading the bases on a double, a single and a walk with one out in the third. Augie used a sacrifice fly to score the first run and a wild pitch plated the second. A 2-run double by Nate Soelter doubled the Vikings lead to 4-0.

GAME 2: Vikings 17 Marauders 7
The Marauders jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead after the first inning on a run-scoring single by
Noah Hull and a 2-run home run to right field by
Isaac Pegors but the UMary advantage was short-lived.
The Vikings exploded for five runs in the second and built a 13-3 lead in the sixth.
The Marauders attempted to close the gap with one run in the sixth and three in the seventh but each time the Vikings immediately matched UMary's output.
Pegors led the Marauders efforts by finishing the game 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. It was the second 3-hit game of the weekend for the UMary outfielder and eighth multi-hit game of the season.
Hull went 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in a run.
Krece Papierski drove in two runs and
Marcus Butts doubled, scored a run and posted one RBI.
Sam Hayen pitched a scoreless inning for UMary.
Kai Taylor earned the win for Augie with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief. Trevor Winterstein and Carter Heinsch both had three hits, scored three times and drove in three runs for the Vikings.
The Marauders are 13-16 on the season overall and 9-11 in the Northern Sun. The Vikings are 19-10 and 14-6.
After playing eight straight home games the Marauders are back on the road for a doubleheader at Northern State University on Wednesday, April 9. UMary then opens a 5-game home stand on April 12 with a visit from St. Cloud State University.
