Hunter excels as Marauders fall to Bulldogs

BISMARCK, ND – An excellent performance by Madison Hunter was not enough for the University of Mary softball team (9-42, 2-24 Northern Sun) as the Marauders fell 3-0 4-1 in a doubleheader to the University of Minnesota Duluth (36-16, 16-8 NSIC).

UMary hosts senior day on Sunday, April 27, at noon in a doubleheader against St. Cloud State University to end the 2025 season.

GAME 1 University of Minnesota Duluth 3 University of Mary 0

UMD took a 1-0 in the top of the second inning. The Bulldogs added one run in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to hold a 3-0 advantage.

UMary loaded the bases in the first and sixth innings but failed to capitalize with any runs. Allison Luoma picked up her 14th win on the season after shutting the Marauders down in the seventh inning, securing a 3-0 win for UMD.

Madison Hunter went a perfect 3-of-3 in the game with one double, securing the only Marauder hits for the game. Janelle Bergmann reached base twice by drawing two walks.

Arria Johnson got the start for UMary and pitched a complete game. Johnson threw six innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out two batters.

UMary recorded eight hits and one walk, while UMD had eight hits and one walk.

GAME 2 University of Minnesota Duluth 4 University of Mary 1

The Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. UMD extended the lead to 4-0 after scoring two runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth.

The Marauders scored their first run of the day after a passed ball saw Jenel Mallari come home to score. Kelsey Mischel led off the seventh inning with a double down the left side. UMary was unable to capitalize as the game finished 4-1 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Marauders posted four hits and four walks, while UMD had nine hits and four walks. Jayleen Rojas pitched two shutout innings of relief, allowing only one hit.
