Marauders downed by the Beavers

BEMIDJI, MN – The University of Mary softball team (9-40, 2-22 Northern Sun) was defeated 9-1, 5-2 by the Bemidji State University (19-29, 6-18 NSIC) in a doubleheader.

UMary returns home to welcome the University of Minnesota Duluth to the University of Mary Softball Field on Saturday, April 26, at noon.

UMary took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Hailey Altenhof smacked a double to center field, scoring Jenel Mallari. The Beavers responded with one run of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game.

BSU took a 3-1 lead after scoring two runs in the third inning. The Beavers opened the game up with five runs in the fourth inning, increasing the lead to 8-1. BSC earned a 9-1 victory after walking the game off with one run in the fifth inning.

UMary recorded four hits and drew one walk, while BSC had ten hits and three walks.

The Beavers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. UMary evened the game up in the top of the third inning after Genevieve Hastings hit a single to center field, scoring Janelle Bergmann.

BSU took a 5-1 lead back after scoring one run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth.

Hastings led off the sixth inning with a triple down the right-field line. Madison Schamanski followed with a single to center field to bring home Hastings.

The Marauders failed to add more runs as the Beavers secured a 5-2 victory. UMary posted eight hits and drew one walk, while BSU had 11 hits and two walks.
