CROOKSTON, MN – The University of Mary softball team (9-38, 2-20 Northern Sun) dropped their doubleheader 12-4, 9-3 to the University of Minnesota Crookston (19-28, 7-13 NSIC).
UMary travels to Bemidji, MN, to compete against Bemidji State University on Saturday, April 19, in a doubleheader at noon.

The Marauders grabbed an early 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Ariana Retuta kicked open the game in style, hitting a two-run homer over the left-field wall to score Kelsey Mischel. Hailey Altenhof made it a 3-0 ballgame when she singled to right field, scoring Madison Hunter.
The Marauder lead collapsed in the bottom of the third inning when UMC scored four runs to take a 4-3 lead. Jenel Mallari tied the game up when she scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth inning.
The Golden Eagles took control of the game in the bottom of the fourth after Irelyn Spencer hit a three-run homer, giving them a 7-4 lead. UMC scored five runs in the sixth inning, including a walk-off grand slam by Spencer to win the game 12-4.
UMary recorded four hits and two walks, while UMC had nine hits and two walks.

UMC took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 6-0 after scoring one run in the third inning and two in the fourth.
Janelle Bergmann put the Marauders on the board in the top of the sixth inning, blasting a three-run homer over the left field wall.
UMC responded with three runs in the sixth inning, increasing the Golden Eagles lead to 9-3. UMary had two runners reach in the seventh inning but failed to score as UMC secured the victory.
The Marauders posted six hits and two walks, while the Golden Eagles had 11 hits and seven walks.
