ST. PAUL, MN – The University of Mary softball team (9-34, 2-16 Northern Sun) dropped their doubleheader 4-0, 7-3 in a doubleheader against Concordia-St. Paul (19-24, 11-7 NSIC).
UMary travels to Winona, MN, to play Winona State University in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 13, at noon.
GAME 1 Concordia-St. Paul 7 University of Mary 0
A solo home run by Sydney Pelzer gave CSP a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first innings. The Golden Bears added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead.
UMary struggled with the bats as Madison Hunter had the Marauders only hit. CSP had seven hits and one walk.
Arria Johnson pitched two innings of relief, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out two batters.
GAME 2 Concordia-St. Paul 7 University of Mary 3
The Golden Bears opened the scoring in game two with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. CSP scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-0 lead. UMary got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs.
Hailey Altenhof got the first hit of her career, smacking a single to right field to score Ariana Retuta. Francesca Villaneda followed by smacking a single to center field, scoring Madison Schamanski. The Marauders recorded their fourth straight hit when Genevieve Hastings singled to let field to bring home Altenhof.
Sariah Perez hit a single to open the seventh inning, but UMary failed to score as CSP won 7-3.
Elyssa Verploegen pitched 3.2 innings and allowed zero earned runs.
