MARSHALL, MN – Sariah Perez and Madison Hunter both homered as the University of Mary softball team (9-21, 2-6 Northern Sun) fell in their doubleheader (9-1, 10-7) to Southwest Minnesota State University (22-12, 4-4 NSIC).
UMary heads to Mankato, MN, to take on Minnesota State University, Mankato in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29, at 12 pm.

Madison Hunter opened game one with a solo shot to left field to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
SMSU took control of the game with three runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 5-1 lead. After a two-run fourth inning, the Mustangs finished the game with two runs in the fifth, earning a 9-1 victory.
UMary recorded three hits and no walks, while SMSU had 12 hits and two walks.

SMSU grabbed an early 4-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Janelle Bergmann made it a 4-2 ballgame in the top of the fourth inning after she doubled to left center to score Ariana Retuta and Kelsey Mischel.
The Mustangs exploded for four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 8-2. UMary scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 4-2.
Madison Hunter smacked a single up the middle to bring home Sariah Perez. Ariana Retuta followed by singling through the right side, scoring Kelsey Mischel. SMSU added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Sariah Perez cut the Mustangs lead to two after smashing a three-run homer to left-center field, scoring Genevieve Hastings and Emma Kimberling.
SMSU scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 10-7 lead. The Mustangs kept the Marauders scoreless in the seventh to earn the victory.
UMary posted ten hits and one walk, while SMSU had nine hits and four walks.
