BISMARCK, ND – A stellar pitching performance by Arria Johnson was not enough for the University of Mary softball team (9-21, 2-4 Northern Sun) as the Marauders lost a doubleheader (2-1, 9-0) to Minot State University (17-12, 5-1 NSIC).
UMary travels to Marshall, MN, to challenge Southwest Minnesota State University in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29, at 1 pm.

Arria Johnson was excellent in game one. Johnson pitched seven innings and allowed only one earned run while striking out two batters.
Janelle Bergmann continued her hot run at the plate, smashing a home run over the left field wall in the top of the seventh inning.
UMary held that lead until the top of the seventh inning when MSU tied the game. The Beavers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning after a Paige Kellog single scored the game-winning run. The Marauders failed to score in the bottom of the ninth as the game finished 2-1 in favor of the Beavers.
UMary recorded three hits and two walks, while MSU had 13 hits and two walks.

MSU grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning and added another run in the top of the sixth inning.
Elyssa Verploegen pitched six strong innings, allowing only two earned runs, but ran into trouble in the seventh inning. The Beavers busted the game open with seven runs in the final inning to take a 9-0 lead.
The Marauders put a runner on in the seventh inning but could not score as MSU won 9-0. UMary posted three hits and two walks, while MSU had 12 hits and three walks.
