MINOT, ND – A three-run home run by Janelle Bergmann powered the University of Mary softball team (9-19, 2-2 Northern Sun) to a doubleheader split against Wayne State College (17-11, 2-2 NSIC).
WSC took down game one 11-1, and UMary won game two 9-8. UMary hosts Minot State College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 26, at 1 pm at the UMary softball field.

WSC opened the first inning with one run and added another in the fourth to take a 2-0 first inning. UMary responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
Francesca Villaneda smacked a single to left field to bring home Emma Kimberling. The Wildcats broke the game open with three runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take an 11-1 lead. UMary failed to score in the bottom of the seventh, securing an 11-1 WSC win.
Arria Johnson got the start and pitched four innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out one batter. WSC recorded eight hits and seven walks, while UMary had six hits and four walks.

WSC took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Marauders came back with two runs of their own to make the score 4-2.
Janelle Bergmann roped a double to right-center field to score Madison Schamanski. Chloe Robinson walked with the bases loaded to bring home Francesca Villaneda.
A two-run single by the Wildcats extended their lead to 6-2 in the top of the third. UMary responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half.
Rilyn Kirkland singled home Bergmann after smacking the ball down the right-field line. Robinson then smashed a double to left-center field, scoring Kirkland.
The Wildcats would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it an 8-4 ballgame. The Marauders exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-8 lead.
Villaneda delivered a single to left-center field to bring home Ariana Retuta and Genevieve Hastings. Bergmann gave the Marauders the lead when she smashed a home run over the left-field wall, scoring Madison Hunter and Emma Kimberling. Bergmann leads the Marauders in home runs with four.
Hannah Chambers pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings to earn her first victory of the year. The Wildcats had the bases loaded in the seventh inning with one out, but a popup to first and a groundout to the shortstop gave the Marauders a win.
