CLERMONT, FL – The University of Mary softball team (6-11) split their opening Florida spring games, defeating California University of Pennsylvania 8-4 and falling 15-0 to Franklin Pierce University.
The Marauders begin day two of their spring games in Clermont, FL, against Saint Anselm on Sunday, March 1, at 8 am CT.

UMary took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Madison Hunter came home to score after
Jaraya Diaz reached via a fielder's choice.
Ariana Retuta singled to left field to score Diaz.
Cal U responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. The lead would not last long as the Marauders came back with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning.
A
Rilyn Kirkland double to left center tied the game up as Hunter and
Madison Schamanski came around to score.
Sariah Perez and
Kelsey Mischel came home to score after an error made by the right fielder.
The Marauders added two more runs in the sixth inning. Kelsey Michel scored after
Chloe Robinson reached via an error. A sac fly to left field by Retuta scored Perez to make it an 8-4 ballgame.
Elyssa Verploegen picked up her second win of the season. She pitched four innings and allowed four runs while striking out four batters.
Jayleen Rojas came on in relief to pick up her first save of the season. Rojas pitched three innings and allowed zero runs while striking out four batters.

FPU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Ravens added on three runs in the second and exploded for six runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth inning.
The Marauders failed to record a hit in the game as FPU won 15-0 after five innings.
