Gaffney, Haney post pair of hits each as Marauders drop NSIC opener to Mavericks

OMAHA, NE – Kieran Gaffney and Kalem Haney both had a pair of hits for the University of Mary baseball team in the Northern Sun opener for the Marauders. Facing Minnesota State University in game one of a four-game neutral site weekend series, the Marauders couldn't keep pace with the Mavericks bats in a 17-1 loss to MSU.

Posting multiple hits for the fifth time this season in ten games, Gaffney was 2-for-4 in the leadoff slot for the Marauders.

Haney finished the NSIC opener 2-for-3. The all-conference player scored the Marauders lone run as the UMary 2-hole hitter.

The Mavericks scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. UMary starter Adam Golby kept MSU silent in the third and fourth innings before the Mavericks crossed the plate once in the fifth. MSU clinched the game with four more runs in the sixth and eight in the eighth.

Aidan Bryne led the Mavericks with three hits and two RBIs.
