OMAHA, NE – After hitting took center stage the first two games of the week for the University of Mary, Marauders pitchers
Ryan Chamberlain and
Jaxon Zanolli claimed the spotlight in the second game of the Northern Sun series against Minnesota State University.
Chamberlain and Zanolli limited the Mavericks to a pair of runs in the Marauders 2-0 loss in a neutral site series played at the Elkhorn Legion Field in Omaha, NE. The previous two UMary games featured a combined 66 runs.
The Mavericks opened the scoring in the second inning on a Zach Stroh run-scoring single with two outs. Chamberlain left the bases loaded in the third and escaped a leadoff double in the fourth as Minnesota State hoped to extend its lead. Taking advantage of a leadoff walk, a single by Louis Magers doubled the Mavericks lead.
UMary also struggled to score. The Marauders posted a pair of singles in the fourth inning but couldn't plate a run. It was one of only two innings during the game the Marauders had two runners on base at the same time.
The Marauders were limited to four hits.
Bryce Leafgren had a hit and a walk.
Carter Shin doubled.
Chamberlain allowed two runs in five innings on four hits and five walks. He struck out three. Zanolli pitched four shutout innings, striking out six and giving up three hits.
MSU's Nathan Culley limited UMary to three hits and no runs in six innings. He struck out nine and walked three. Spencer Wright earned a save with three shutout innings, allowing a single hit, no walks and struck out two.
The Marauders (4-7 overall, 0-2 NSIC) and the Mavericks (6-0, 6-0 NSIC) wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader Sunday, March 2. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
