UNION LAKE, MI – The University of Mary hockey team's perfect streak of qualifying for national championship tournaments continues. The Marauders received a berth to the 2025 American College Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 1 National Championships set for March 13-18 at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, MO.
UMary earned the 14
th seed and will face #19 University of Pittsburgh in the opening round on Thursday, March 13. Game time is 1:45 pm. The winner of the Marauders and Pitt game will face #3 Ohio in the second round at 1 pm on Friday, March 14.
UMary enters the national tournament with a record of 22-14-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 21-14-0-0-0-0 in ACHA MD1 play. A member of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL), Pitt is 14-11-3-0-2-2 this season.
Since the UMary hockey program first took to the ice in the 2018-19 season, the Marauders have qualified for the national tournament every year in which the Marauders have been eligible to compete. Not being eligible in 2019 as a first year program and with the 2020 tournament cancelled due to the pandemic, head coach Dan Huntley has led the Marauders to five straight national tournaments. UMary won ACHA MD2 national tournament in 2021 and 2022 before falling just short of a 3-peat in 2023.
UMary moved up to ACHA MD1 last season and went 1-1 at the 2024 national tournaments, opening with a 3-1 win over West Chester University before falling 2-1 to Liberty University in round two.
Overall the Marauders have a record of 13-2 at national tournaments.
The Marauders are joined at the ACHA MD1 national tournament by fellow Midwest College Hockey members #1 Minot State University, #5 University of Jamestown and #16 Midland University. The Western Collegiate Hockey League with five is the only conference sending more teams to the national tournament than the MCH.
UMary is ranked 14
th in the 2024-25 ACHA Men's Division 1 ranking released February 25, the 16
th regular season poll of the year. The Marauders slipped on slot in the polls from the previous week.
The ACHA uses two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings. The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking. Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed. All games that go to overtime will be scored as ties in the computer ranking.
