JAMESTOWN, ND – The bats came alive for the University of Mary softball team (5-8) as UMary defeated Valley City State University 6-2 and Concordia College 16-5 after five innings.
The Marauders return to the diamond on Wednesday, February 26, as they challenge William Jewell College on the road in Liberty, MO, in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.

UMary went up 1-0 in the top of the second inning after
Madison Schamanski hit an RBI groundout to score Ivee Johnson.
Sariah Perez made it a 2-0 ballgame in the third inning, smashing a solo home run to left-center field.
VCSU cut the lead to one in the bottom of the third and tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Marauders grabbed three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Janelle Bergmann singled to left center to bring home
Sariah Perez.
Emma Kimberling came around to score on an RBI groundout by
Genevieve Hastings.
Jenel Mallari smacked a single to score Bergmann.
UMary added an insurance run in the sixth inning after
Emma Kimberling smashed a triple to right center to score Perez.
Hailey Altenhof picked up her second win of the season after pitching 3.1 innings of relief. Alltenhof allowed only two hits and no runs while striking out four batters.

CC grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. UMary responded with five runs in the first and three in the second inning to take an 8-1 lead.
Janelle Bergmann singled to right to score
Sariah Perez and
Chloe Robinson. Bergmann then came home to score on an error.
Jenel Mallari scored on a
Francesca Villaneda sacrifice fly.
Rilyn Kirkland singled to right field to bring home
Genevieve Hastings.
In the second inning, Robinson scored on a steal by
Ariana Retuta. Mallari then brought home Retuta after she singled to left field. Villaneda singled through the hole to score Bergmann.
The Cobbers added a run in the top of the third inning to make it an 8-3 game. UMary then exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 16-3 lead.
Katelyn Falk scored after
Emma Kimberling walked with the bases loaded. Perez then drew another walk to score
Jaraya Diaz. Kimberling came home to score after Robinson grounded into a fielder's choice.
Perez and Robinson scored on a CC error to make the score 13-3. Retuta scored on another Cobbers error. A Falk triple brought home Bergmann and Mallari to make it a 16-3 ballgame.
CC scored two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough as the Marauders won 16-5.
Jayleen Rojas picked up the first win of her collegiate career after pitching 4.2 innings of relief. Rojas allowed three runs and struck out three batters.
