BISMARCK, ND – A hard-fought game for the University of Mary women's basketball team (14-11, 11-10 NSIC) ends in an 86-77 defeat to #17 Southwest Minnesota State University (25-2, 19-2).
With this defeat, the Marauders remain sixth in the NSIC standings. If UMary defeats the University of Sioux Falls, they would be tied for fifth place. The tiebreaker would be decided on conference points. If UMary were to fall to USF, the Marauders could drop to seventh place in the standings.
Bergan Kinnebrew dropped 20 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Eden Fridley scored 11 points and dished out five assists.
Emily Jaenke came off the bench to record 11 points.
Addison Rozell posted nine points and five rebounds.
Moriku Hakim scored seven points and brought down seven rebounds off the bench.
Chloe Pfau contributed nine points.
SMSU jumped out to a 25-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. UMary shot 61.11 percent in the second quarter to take a 48-41 lead. Jaenke scored the Marauders first 11 points of the quarter in 1:26 of action.
The Mustangs defense responded in the third quarter as SMSU held UMary to 11 points, taking a six-point lead going into the final quarter. The Marauders got the lead down to one in the fourth but could not get the lead back as The Mustangs won 86-77.
The Marauders shot 28-of-76 (36.8%) from the field and 6-of-23 (26.1%) from three, while the Mustangs went 29-of-66 (38.9%) from the floor and 10-of-24 (41.7%) from behind the arc.
UMary shot 15-of-20 (75%) from the free-throw line, while SMSU went 18-of-24 (75%) from the charity stripe. The Marauders outrebounded the Mustangs 47-44.
UMary wraps up its 2025 regular season at home against USF on Saturday, February 22, at 5:30 pm in the McDowell Activity Center. The Marauders will host their senior day at halftime of the men's game, which begins at 3:30 pm.
