BISMARCK, ND – A career night for
Bergan Kinnebrew helped lead the University of Mary women's basketball team (15-11, 12-10 NSIC) to a 66-58 victory over the University of Sioux Falls (16-13, 12-10) on senior day.
This win secures the sixth seed for the Marauders as they will take on the University of Minnesota Duluth on Wednesday, February 26, at 6 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
Kinnebrew tied her career-high in scoring with 26 points and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds against USF. Kinnebrew picked up her first double-double of the season and dished out three assists.
Emily Jaenke had 11 points off the bench, shooting 4-of-8 from the field.
Chloe Pfau scored eight points and had five rebounds.
Addison Rozell grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots.
The first quarter was back-and-forth as neither team by more than three, with the score being tied at 14 after one. UMary, led by seven points from Kinnebrew in the second quarter, took a 28-26 lead going into halftime.
The Marauders extended their lead over the Cougars 46-39 at the end of the third quarter. USF battled back in the fourth quarter, cutting the UMary lead to one with 5:10 remaining. A Pfau three with 59 seconds remaining would the dagger as she put the Marauders up by six. Kinnebrew closed the game at the free-throw line as UMary won 66-58.
The Marauders shot 22-of-57 (38.6%) from the floor and 8-of-20 (40%) from three, while the Cougars went 22-of-60 (36.7%) from the field and 7-of-20 (35%) from behind the arc.
UMary shot 14-of-20 (70%) from the charity stripe, while USF went 7-of-10 (70%) from the free-throw line. The Marauders dominated the glass, outrebounding the Cougars 47-29.
The University of Mary women's basketball team will host the University of Minnesota Duluth in the opening round of the Northern Sun women's basketball tournament. Tipoff is slated for 6 pm on Wednesday, February 26, at the McDowell Activity Center. Tickets will go on sale at 5 pm on a cash-only basis. There will be no presale of tickets. ATMs are available onsite.
Ticket process, set by the Northern Sun, are $10 for adults and $2 for students. Children ages five and under are admitted free.
UMary students will be admitted free by displaying their MCard at the gate. Additionally there will be free pizza and Marauders Rally Towels for UMary students, while supplies last.
