MANKATO, MN – Turnovers plagued the University of Mary women's basketball team (14-10, 11-9 NSIC) as the Marauders fell 91-75 on the road to #25 Minnesota State University, Mankato (21-5, 17-3).
The Marauders turned the ball over 46 times, while the Mavericks committed 28. UMary shot a season-best from the field (55.6%) and from three (52.4%) but failed to overcome the turnover disparity.
Bergan Kinnebrew scored 12 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field, and stole the ball five times.
Emily Jaenke had ten points and two steals off the bench.
Ryleigh Wacha posted eight points, six rebounds and three steals.
Brenna Dick recorded her first collegiate points of her career, scoring eight points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc.
The Mavericks jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Marauders 28-13 with 16 points coming off turnovers. MSU increased the lead to 51-33 going into halftime.
UMary managed to cut the lead to 11 in the third quarter before MSU went on an 18-8 run to hold a 71-50 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Marauders continued to battle, outscoring the Mavericks 25-20 in the fourth quarter.
UMary shot 14-of-19 (73.7%) from the charity stripe, while MSU went 13-of-21 (61.9%) from the free-throw line. The Marauders were outrebounded 33-30 by the Mavericks.
The Marauders return home to host #17 Southwest Minnesota University on Friday, February 21, at 7:30 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
