WINONA, MN – An impressive team effort sees the University of Mary women's basketball team (14-9, 11-8 NSIC) pick up a 70-61 road win over Winona State University (9-16, 5-14 NSIC). UMary is now 4-1 over their last five games.
The Marauders got big contributions from their post player, combining for 23 points and 16 rebounds.
Addison Rozell scored a season-high 10 points and 12 rebounds to pick up her first double-double of the year.
Moriku Hakim had 13 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
Ryleigh Wacha led UMary in scoring with 14 points while also grabbing five rebounds.
Bergan Kinnebrew contributed 11 points and five rebounds.
Chloe Pfau had seven points, five rebounds and two blocks.
The Marauders took an early 10-point lead to start the game, but the Warriors cut the lead to 18-14 at the end of the first quarter. A back-and-forth second quarter saw UMary hold a 35-32 advantage going into halftime.
UMary outscored WSU 21-11 in the third quarter to take a 56-43 lead. The Warriors fought hard and cut the lead down to four. The Marauders regained their poise after Wacha hit two layups and a Kinnebrew three sealed a UMary victory.
The Marauders shot 28-of-63 (44.4%) from the floor and 3-of-18 (30.8%) from behind the arc, while the Warriors went 23-of-64 (35.9%) from the floor and 7-of-21 (33.3%) from three.
UMary shot 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the free-throw line, while WSU went 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the charity stripe. The Marauders won the rebounding battle 40-35 over WSU.
The Marauders travel to Mankato, MN, on Friday, February 14, to take on #25 Minnesota State University, Mankato at 5:30 pm.
