JAMESTOWN, ND – A late comeback effort by the University of Mary women's basketball team would fall short in a 60-58 road defeat to the University of Jamestown.
UMary (8-3, 2-1 NSIC) shot 20-of-68 (29.4%) from the field and 12-of-35 (34.3%) from behind the arc, while UJ (4-3, 2-1 NSIC) went 26-of-63 (36.5%) from the field and 6-of-19 (31.6%) from three. The Marauders shot 6-of-12 (50%) from the charity stripe, while the Jimmies went 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the free-throw line.
UMary lost the rebounding battle 50-44 to UJ. The Marauders committed 15 turnovers, while the Jimmies gave the ball away 16 times.
Emily Jaenke had a team-high 17 points, shooting 5-of-9 from three.
Allison Undlin recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, and six blocks.
Eden Fridley had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Chloe Pfau posted ten points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Anna Lenzen grabbed 12 rebounds and had four steals.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as the score was tied at 19 at the end. The Jimmies dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Marauders 25-12 to take a 44-31 lead.
UMary showed grit in the second half, holding UJ to 16 points compared to the 44 points the Jimmies scored in the first half. The Marauders cut the lead to 54-49 at the end of the third quarter. UMary took a 56-54 lead with 7:20 remaining, but UJ would hold the Marauders to just one field goal the rest of the game. A late turnover would lead to a layup for the Jimmies, taking a 60-58 lead with 56 seconds remaining. The Marauders had several good looks late to tie or win the game but couldn't get them to fall as UJ won 60-58.
The Marauders return home to host the University of Minnesota Crookston on Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
