Shorthanded Marauders earn impressive 84-68 victory over Golden Eagles

BISMARCK, ND – It was an impressive effort by the shorthanded University of Mary women's basketball team (9-3, 3-1 NSIC) as the Marauders defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston (1-8, 0-4 NSIC) 84-68 at home.

Emily Jaenke tied her season-high in scoring with 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from three. Jaenke also grabbed four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Allison Undlin recorded 20 points, shooting 10-of-14 from the floor. Undlin also brought down six rebounds.

Chloe Pfau posted 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Pfau shot 3-of-6 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Cassie Erickson had seven points, four rebounds, and four assists. Eden Fridley dished out six assists to go along with five points and three blocks.  Brenna Dick led all bench scorers with five points. Grace Richardson had three points and three assists.

The Marauders jumped out to a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles rallied back in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 32-26 before halftime.

UMary responded with 36 points in the third quarter, the most points scored by the Marauders this season. UMary shot 12-of-14 from the floor, 4-of-4 from behind the arc, and went 8-of-9 from the free-throw line to take a 68-42 lead at the end of the quarter. The Marauders then cruised to an 84-68 win in the fourth quarter.

UMary shot 31-of-62 (50%) from the field and 10-of-25 (40%) from three, while UMC went 23-of-54 (42.6%) from the floor and 4-of-9 (44.4%) from behind the arc. The Marauders shot 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the charity stripe, while the Jimmies went 18-of-22 (81.8%) from the free-throw line.

UMary lost the rebounding battle 33-31 to UJ. The Marauders committed 12 turnovers, while the Golden Eagles gave the ball away 16 times.

The Marauders stay home to host the Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday, December 13, at 5:30 pm.
