BISMARCK, ND – A career night by
Tamarrein Henderson for the University of Mary men's basketball team was not enough to offset a big night behind the arc for visiting Northern State University as the Marauders dropped an 87-68 decision to the Wolves in Northern Sun action.
Henderson, perfect from behind the arc in three attempts, scored 17 points in the game. The sophomore guard made 7-of-10 shots overall and also grabbed four rebounds. His previous high was 11 points this season at Chadron State in the third game of the season.
Led by James Glenn's six treys, the Wolves knocked down 15 3-pointers in the game in 33 attempts from behind the arc. Northern State (2-5 overall, 2-0 NSIC, 2-0 NSIC North) ended the night shooting 47% overall and made 10-of-12 free throws.
UMary (2-5 overall, 1-1 NSIC, 1-1 NSIC North) shot 41% from the floor and made 7-of-18 3-pointers while finishing 11-of-18 at the line. The Marauders held a 40-34 edge in rebounding and outscored the Wolves 36-22 in the paint. UMary could only turn its nine offensive boards into six second chance points.
After the Marauders claimed a 10-8 lead on a
Relja Nagulic layup, the Wolves moved back in front on a Glenn trey and remained in front the remainder of the game.
Three straight baskets by Henderson, including treys on back-to-back possessions, clawed the Marauders to within 58-53 with ten minutes to play but UMary was unable to close the deficit any further.
Jackson Ware matched his season-high with 11 points for the Marauders. He led UMary in rebounds (7), assists (4) and steals (3). Nagulic and
Kelton Coleman both chipped in nine points. Overall nine Marauders scored in the game.
Glenn led all players with 22 points as he made 6-of-10 treys for the Wolves. Simon Akena had 16 points off the bench. Joshua Book scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists. Overall five Wolves scored in double figures.
The Marauders next travel to the University of Jamestown for a 1 pm game on Saturday, December 6. This will be the first NSIC game between the two I-94 foes. It is also the first conference game between the two teams since UMary and Jamestown competed in the Dakota Athletic Conference in the 2004-05 season.
