Marauders defeated by #5 Wildcats

BISMARCK, ND – In their final home match of the season, the University of Mary volleyball team lost in three sets (25-16, 27-25, 25-8) to #5 Wayne State College.

UMary (6-20, 3-15 Northern Sun) recorded 31 kills on a .102 attack percentage, while WSC (24-3, 17-1 NSIC) posted 45 kills on a .313 hitting percentage. The Marauders had 30 assists and three aces, while the Wildcats had 41 assists and seven aces.

WSC held an 11-10 lead in the first before going on a 14-6 run to win 25-16.

The second set was a thrilling back-and-forth contest with both teams holding leads late. UMary held a 23-20 lead after an attacking error by the Wildcats. After WSC tied the score at 24-24, Natalie Boehmer gave the Marauders the lead back with a kill off an assist from Dani Highum. The Wildcats took down the next three points to win 27-25.

WSC controlled the third set from start to finish, winning 25-8.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Dani Highum led the team with nine kills and five digs.

Holli Klettheimer contributed eight kills and five blocks.

Maddy Freed had the most assists (17) and digs (9) on the team.

Myra Newman had six kills on a .250 hitting percentage.

Judith Burke posted five kills, five digs and two blocks.

Chloe Solheid had six digs.
