BILLINGS, MT – A dominant defensive effort by the University of Mary women's basketball team saw the Marauders take down #20 University of Texas at Tyler 68-48 on day two of the Tip Off Classic at the Trailhead.
UMary (2-0) held UT Tyler (1-1) to 21-of-54 (38.9%) shooting from the field and shot 4-of-18 (22.2%) from three. The Marauders defense forced the Patriots into 21 turnovers, compared to 12 giveaways for UMary. The Marauders shot 27-of-57 (47.4%) from the floor and 8-of-22 (36.4%) from behind the arc.
Bergan Kinnebrew continued her hot start to the season as she recorded 21 points, shooting 8-of-17 from the field and 5-of-9 from three. Kinnebrew also added three assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
Allison Undlin dropped 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed nine boards.
Chloe Pfau posted 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Eden Fridley ran the Marauders offense smoothly, dishing out seven assists and committing zero turnovers. Fridley has 12 assists and only one turnover to start the season.
Anna Lenzen had six points and three assists.
Chloe Nuss added five points off the bench.
UMary took a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter as Kinnebrew (nine points) outscored UT Tyler in the first quarter. The Marauders extended their lead to 33-21 heading into halftime.
The third quarter saw both offenses struggle as UMary took a 45-32 advantage into the final quarter. The Marauders' offense caught fire in the fourth quarter, led by Kinnebrew, as UMary made four threes in the first four minutes of action. UMary continued to control the game and cruised to a 68-48 victory.
The Marauders lost the rebounding battle 33-29 to the Patriots. UMary shot 6-of-8 from the free throw line, while UT Tyler went 2-of-4 from the charity stripe.
The Marauders will play their final game of the Tip Off Classic as they take on Colorado State University Pueblo on Sunday, November 9, at 4:30 pm in Billings, MT.
