BELLINGHAM, WA – Despite a career-high 41 points from
Bergan Kinnebrew, the University of Mary women's basketball team (7-2, 1-0 NSIC) fell 89-82 to #23 Central Washington University (6-0) in Bellingham, WA.
Kinnebrew's 41 are the second-most points scored by a Marauder in the NCAA era. Cassie Askvig holds the record for most points in a game, scoring 45 in 2020. The Bismarck, ND, native shot 12-of-22 from the field, 2-of-5 from three, and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line. Kinnebrew also added eight rebounds, three steals, and three assists.
Anna Lenzen recorded 17 points and eight rebounds. Lenzen shot 7-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc.
Allison Undlin posted nine points and six rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
Chloe Pfau scored nine points, and
Chloe Nuss added five points off the bench.
The first quarter was tightly contested, with both teams exchanging leads. UMary would close the quarter with a 23-19 advantage. The Marauders lead grew as big as nine in the second quarter, but CWU closed the final minutes strong, cutting the UMary lead to 41-39.
The Wildcats took a 57-56 lead at the end of the third quarter. The score would be tied at 72 late in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats would go on an 8-3 run to take an 80-75 lead. Kinnebrew knocked down a trey to make it a two-point game with 1:46 remaining. The Marauders comeback efforts would fall short, and CWU claimed an 89-82 victory.
UMary shot 27-of-59 (45.8%) from the floor and 5-of-16 (31.3%) from behind the arc, while CWU went 29-of-52 (55.8%) from the field and 11-of-20 (55%) from three. The Marauders shot 23-of-25 (92%) from the free-throw line, while the Wildcats went 20-of-28 from the charity stripe.
CWU won the rebounding battle 32-27 over UMary. The Marauders committed 13 turnovers, while the Wildcats had 15 giveaways.
The Marauders return home to host Northern State University on Thursday, December 4, at 7:30 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
