Marauders suffer first defeat to the Vikings 72-63

BELLINGHAM, WA – The University of Mary women's basketball team suffered their first defeat of the season on the road to Western Washington University 72-63.

UMary (7-1, 1-0 NSIC) shot 24-of-62 (38.7%) from the field and 7-of-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc, while WWU (6-2) went 19-of-54 (47.5%) from the floor and 1-of-9 (11.1%) from three. Free throws had a huge impact on the game as the Marauders shot 8-of-13 (61.5%) from the charity stripe, while the Vikings went 33-of-39 from the free-throw line.

Bergan Kinnebrew posted 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field. The Bismarck, ND, native has scored 22 points or more in seven of the eight games played this season.

Allison Undlin recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and one block. Anna Lenzen scored ten points and added five rebounds. Emily Jaenke and Cassie Erickson both scored six points off the bench.

The Marauders fell behind 17-11 at the end of the first quarter. UMary rallied back in the second quarter as an Allison Undlin buzzer beater cut the Vikings lead to one.

The third quarter saw WWU regain control as the Vikings took a 47-42 lead going into the final quarter. WWU went 17-of-20 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to secure a 72-63 victory for the Vikings.

WWU won the rebounding battle 44-33 over UMary. The Marauders committed 11 turnovers, while the Vikings had ten giveaways.

The Marauders remain in Bellingham, WA, to take on Central Washington University on Friday, November 29, at 2 pm.
