BISMARCK, ND – Four Marauders scored double figures as the University of Mary women's basketball team opened their conference schedule with an impressive 82-69 home victory over in-state rivals Minot State University. UMary improves to 7-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Northern Sun, the best start in NCAA history for the Marauders.
UMary shot 26-of-63 (41.3%) from the field and 11-of-26 (42.3%) from behind the arc, while MSU went 29-of-61 (47.5%) from the floor and 4-of-20 (20%) from three. The Marauder shot a perfect 19-of-19 from the free throw line, while the Beavers went 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the charity stripe.
Bergan Kinnebrew recorded 22 points for the second game in a row, while also adding five assists and three rebounds.
Anna Lenzen scored a career-high 17 points to go along with a season-high seven rebounds.
Chloe Pfau scored 16 points, knocking down four treys. Pfau also added five rebounds and three steals.
Eden Fridley posted a season-best 13 points, shooting 3-of-4 from three.
Emily Jaenke scored six points off the bench.
Allison Undlin brought down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Marauders got off to a hot start, outscoring the Beavers 22-13 at the end of the first quarter. MSU cut the UMary lead to 37-34 going into halftime.
The third quarter saw the Marauders offense explode for 27 points, going 10-of-17 (58.8%) from the field while holding the Beavers to 7-of-18 (38.9%) shooting. UMary held a 64-52 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Marauders maintained control in the fourth quarter, winning 82-69.
UMary won the rebounding battle 40-31 over MSU. The Marauders committed 15 turnovers, while the Beavers had 13 giveaways.
The Marauders head to Bellingham, WA, to take on Western Washington University on Friday, November 28, at 4:30 pm.
