UMary’s Hammah named NSIC Athlete of the Week, first for program since 2021

BURNSVILLE, MN – University of Mary men's cross country sophomore Gideon Hammah has had an excellent start to the season and was named the Northern Sun's Athlete of the Week. Hammah is the first member of the men's cross country program to receive the honor since Jesse Kaas in 2021.

Hammah's latest accomplishment was a fifth-place finish at the Jimmie Invitational, clocking in with his season-best 8k time of 25:00.06. In the field of 121 runners, the sophomore was the best Division II finisher. As a whole, the Marauders placed 5th as a team.

The Ghanan has been stellar in his second season at UMary. He placed 2nd at the Marauders Invitational to open the season, then followed that up with a 4th place finish at the Roy Griak Invitaitonal.

Hammah was an All-NSIC athlete last season in both cross country and track and field as a freshman. He also set school records in the 1500m and the Mile.

UMary will be hosting the Marauders Open as part of Homecoming Week this Friday, Oct. 10, at 4:00 p.m. from McDowell Dam in Bismarck, ND.
