WINONA, MN – The University of Mary volleyball team fell on the road in three set (25-23, 25-21, 25-16) to Winona State University.
UMary (6-16, 3-11 Northern Sun) posted 29 kills on a .087 hitting percentage, while WSU (12-10, 7-7 NSIC) recorded 42 kills on a .233 attack percentage. The Marauders had 27 assists and five aces, while the Warriors had 25 assists and five aces. UMary had four blocks and WSU had seven.
The Marauders trailed 18-11 in the first period but rallied back to cut the lead to 24-23. An attack error by UMary would see WSU take down the set 25-23.
The second set would see the Warriors lead 19-11. The Marauders showed grit, going on a 9-1 run to tie the score at 20-20. WSU won five of the next six points to win 25-21.
The Warriors jumped out to a hot start in the third set and won 25-16.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Dani Highum had a team-best eight kills and two aces.
Maddy Freed recorded 13 assists and four digs.
Katie Bleeker had a team-high seven digs.
Myra Newman posted five kills on a .333 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks.
Holli Klettheimer had five kills and two blocks.
Judith Burke put up six kills.
