Big Marauders 4-match road trip wraps up with weekend visits to BSU, UMD

THIS WEEK
The longest road trip of the season continues for the University of Mary soccer team as the Marauders visit Bemidji State University on Friday, October 3, and the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, October 5. The Marauders and the Beavers square off at 6 pm on Friday at Chet Anderson Stadium in Bemidji, MN. The four-game road swing concludes on Sunday when the Marauders and Bulldogs meet at 12 noon inside James S. Malosky Stadium on Griggs Field in Duluth, MN.  
 
THE RECORDS
UMary is 2-3-2 overall and 0-2-2 (2 points) in NSIC play in 2025… Bemidji State is 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 (7 pts) in the NSIC… Minnesota-Duluth is 3-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 (7 pts) in the NSIC.
 
LAST WEEKEND
In UMary's first NSIC road trip of the season, the Marauders gained a pair of draws, playing to a scoreless tie at Winona State before earning a 1-1 tie at Concordia-St. Paul… In a pair of road games, BSU tied Augie 0-0 and lost 1-0 at Wayne State College… Also on the road, UMD gained a 1-1 tie at Wayne State and lost 3-0 at Augustana.
 
OPPO RESEARCH
Bemidji State's Katrina Barthelt is second in the NSIC in scoring at 1.57 points per game, producing four goals and three assists for 11 points in seven games. Three different goalkeepers have started two or more games this season. In three starts Rozlyn Buettner has two clean sheets and a 0.33 goals against average… Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Beavers leads UMD with seven points on three goals and one assist, while senior Elaina Shromoff has recorded three goals for six points. Senior goaltender Kaycee Chavez has a 1.14 goals against average and has already posted three shutouts this season.
 
HISTORY LESSON
UMary is 3-12-3 against BSU since 2009. The Marauders and Beavers played to a 1-1 draw in Bemidji last season. In 2023 UMary split a pair of games with BSU, including a Marauders victory at home to break a run of 11 straight games without a win against BSU… Since 2009 the Marauders and the Bulldogs are 5-5-5 against one another. UMary is undefeated in the last nine meetings with a record of 4-0-5. the two teams have tied the last two seasons, both by 1-1 scores.

CHALLENGING STRETCH
Over the course of their last five matches the Marauders played four teams who competed in the 2024 NCAA tournament. After a 4-0 win at Washburn, UMary hosted 3rd ranked and 2024 NCAA semifinalist Minnesota State (L 0-2) and St. Cloud State (L 0-1). UMary wrapped up the run with a 1-1 draw at Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday.
 
ON THE ROAD
UMary is in the midst of its longest road stretch of the season. After playing at Winona State and Concordia-St. Paul last weekend, the Marauders visit Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth this weekend before returning home for a pair of Homecoming 2025 matches October 10-12.  
 
WEEK FOUR REWIND
Making their first Northern Sun road trip of the season, the Marauders picked up two points in the NSIC with a pair of draws… Kadyn Dilger picked up her third clean sheet of the season in a scoreless draw at Winona State. She made two saves in the game, including a diving stop early in the contest. The Marauders had two shots ping off the frame… Dina Polanco scored the Marauders lone goal in the 76' as UMary earned a 1-1 draw at Concordia-St. Paul. Dilger made six saves, including a diving save in the 69' to keep UMary within a goal.
 
DYNAMIC DINA
Freshman midfielder Dina (pronounced DEE nah) Polanco leads the Marauders and is second in the Northern Sun in goals scored with four in seven games… Polanco had three goals in her first three collegiate games, all by different methods. The native of Guatemala scored her first career goal on a free kick in a 2-0 win over MSU Billings. In a 4-0 win at Washburn, Polanco blasted home a shot during the run of play for the opening goal of the day. Shortly after she drew a foul to earn a penalty kick opportunity which she converted for her second goal of the day and third of the season.
 
GOALS BY GENSCH
Rachel Gensch is second on the Marauders in goals scored with two. Over the course of 17 games in her UMary career, the senior forward has five goals and five assists.
 
CLEAN UP ON AISLE NUMBER ONE
Kadyn Dilger as started five games in goal for the Marauders this season and owns three shutouts. After making a pair of appearances for UMary as a freshman in 2024, she has started five games in 2025. Dilger posted clean sheets in a 2-0 win over MSU Billings, a 4-0 victory at Washburn and a 0-0 draw at Winona State. 
 
SEVEN HEAVEN
The Marauders have qualified for postseason play seven straight seasons and eight times total under the helm of head coach Sarah Cook. The seven straight NSIC tournament appearances ties the longest streak in program history when UMary qualified for the postseason its first seven years in the league (2006-2012).
 
EIGHT
After recording a record of 11-4-4 overall in 2024, the Marauders posted double digit wins for the third straight year and own winning record in six of eight seasons and finished with a .500 or better record for the eighth straight season.


DEBUTS
Nine Marauders made their UMary debuts against MSU Billings: Maggie Bono, Chloe Brand, Theresa English, Lauren LaFountain, Addison Massey, Mia Melton, Dina Polanco, Emmy Strobel and Hanna Sutter. Newcomers Polanco, Sutter and Brand have all earned starts… Sophomore goalkeeper Kadyn Dilger made her first collegiate start after appearing in two games for the Marauders last season… Freshman goalkeeper Wiktoria Slupianek made her first two college starts against Minnesota State and St. Cloud State.

Marauders head coach Sarah Cook earned her 100th victory at UMary in the Marauders 2-1 overtime win at St. Cloud State University in the 2024 NSIC quarterfinals and now owns 102 wins. A member of the Marauders Hall of Fame after earning All-American honors three times as a scholar-athlete, Cook is in her 14th season after taking over leadership of the program prior to the 2012 season. She is the program record-holder for career coaching wins.
 
EXPERIENCE
The Marauders return 18 players from last year's squad, including 11 who earned at least one start throughout the year and six who made 14 or more. Returners with seven or more starts last season include seniors Tara Young (3 years as a starter), MaLiah Burke (2), Rio Spruenken (3), Olivia Gardner (3), Allison Lepp (1), Kira Hockley (1) and Rachel Gensch (1) and junior Kadyn Sharpe (2).
