Haney selected to 2025 NCBWA All-Central Region Preseason team

BISMARCK, ND – With the start of the 2025 University of Mary baseball season a couple days away, Marauders infielder Kalem Haney was named to the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-Central Region team.
 
Haney becomes the first UMary player to earn NCAA preseason all-region baseball honors from the NCBWA.
 
Selected to the 2024 All-Northern Sun first team as a second baseman, Haney is also the UMary Player to Watch for the NSIC this season.
 
Entering his third season as a starter for the Marauders, Haney is a junior from Lethbridge, Alberta. A dynamic leadoff hitter who also saw time at shortstop, Haney hit .360/.460/.560 with a 1.010 OPS in 2024. The Marauders leader in batting average (.360) and on base percentage 9.460), he also paced UMary in steals (14 bases in 15 attempts) and triples (4) and was second in runs scored (48) and doubles (13).
 
Haney, who started all 50 games for UMary, had at least one hit in 39 games with 17 multiple hit performances. Only once did he fail to have a hit in back-to-back games. Haney additionally earned NSIC Player of the Week honors once last year.
 
An outstanding fielder, Haney was named to the 2024 NSIC All-Defensive Team.
 
Haney is one of just four NSIC players on the All-Region preseason team, joining Augustana's Jack Hines (SS) and Ashton Michek (P) and Concordia-St. Paul DH Bennett McCollow.  
 
The Marauders open the regular season Friday, January 31, playing four games over three days in Tucson, AZ. UMary plays two games against both Colorado State University – Pueblo and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
