Highum shines as Marauders come up short against the Cougars

SIOUX FALLS, SD – A strong performance by true freshman Dani Highum was not enough for the University of Mary volleyball team (2-9, 0-3 NSIC) as they dropped their road contest 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-13) to the University of Sioux Falls (7-4, 2-1 NSIC).

Highum matched her career-high of ten kills against USF. This marks the second time in her young career she has reached double-digit kills.

The first set was tied at 10-10 when USF would go on a 15-5 run to clinch it. The Marauders and the Cougars went back and forth in the second set, with both teams holding leads late. With the score tied at 24-24, USF rallied off the last two points to take down the set 26-24.

The third set was tied at 9-9 as USF would again go on a big rally, winning 16 of the next 20 points to win the match.

The Cougars recorded 46 kills and 48 digs, while UMary had 31 kills and 33 digs.

Dani Highum led all competitors with ten kills.

Charli Blackman had nine kills and ten digs.

Kaia Sueker put up 11 digs to lead the team.       

Maddy Freed dished out 27 assists and recorded two aces.

McKenna Kirkpatrick posted four blocks.
