SIOUX FALLS, SD – University of Mary centerfielder
Michael Polson produced four hits over two games but it wasn't enough for the Marauders as UMary dropped both halves of a Northern Sun doubleheader at Augustana 10-0 and 16-1.
Batting leadoff, Polson was 2-for-3 in both games. He had the Marauders lone extra base hit of the day with a solo home run in game two. The senior from Westminster, CO, now has hits in his last four games and has driven in a run in three of the last four. Polson has multiple hits in 11 of the Marauders 25 games this season and is now second on the team in hitting with a .350 batting average.
The Marauders were handcuffed in the opener by Vikings starting pitcher Caleb Saari, who allowed just five hits and struck out ten hitters in a 7-inning complete game. Augie scored five runs in the first three innings.
UMary righty
Paxton Miller kept the Vikings in check early in game two, allowing single runs in the first two innings. Augie would take command of the game with six runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth. Miller stuck out six in four innings of work.
Polson accounted for two of the five hits allowed by Augie starter Ashton Michek, who struck out 12 in a 7-inning complete game for the Vikings.
The Marauders (11-15 overall, 7-9 NSIC) and the Vikings (19-6, 12-4) wrap up the NSIC series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6. First pitch is 12 noon at Ronken Park on the Augustana campus in Sioux Falls, SD.
