SIOUX FALLS, SD – For the second straight season, the University of Mary tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 NSIC tournament after defeating Winona State University 4-1.
Hala Hossam Awad was outstanding in #2 singles, defeating Halle Rosentreter 6-1, 6-1.
Ilona Freitag took down Lainy Ristau 6-3, 6-1 in #3 singles.
Emily Needham was victorious in #5 singles 6-1, 7-5 against Clara Thoemke.
Clinching the victory for the Marauders was
Maria Estinvil, who defeated Skylar Gary 6-4, 6-2 in #4 singles.
Chloe Chong and
Luba Moyo were both winning their matchups before the contest was finished. Chong was winning 4-6, 6-2, 5-0 in #1 singles, while Moyo was leading 6-1, 6-5 in #6 singles.
WSU (8-9, 4-5 Northern Sun) won in doubles competition 2-0 over UMary (9-6, 7-2 NSIC) to earn one team point.
UP NEXT
UMary returns on Saturday, April 27, for the semifinals of the NSIC tournament at 2 pm against Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Marauders defeated the Mavericks 4-3 earlier in the season.
