BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team battled tough on senior day but fell short 5-4, 3-2 in a doubleheader to the University of Minnesota Crookston.
The Marauders honored their seniors
Mckenzie Reinhardt,
Emari Evans and
Nicole Eckhardt for their contributions on and off the field for the UMary program.
UMary (9-35, 2-20 Northern Sun) recorded 15 hits, while UMC (14-34, 7-17 NSIC) posted 17.
GAME 1 |UMC – 5, UMary - 4
The Marauders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Emily Schommer got things started with a base hit down the right field line to score
Mckenzie Reinhardt.
Jaraya Diaz drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring home
Francesca Villaneda.
The Golden Eagles scored a run in the second and fourth innings to tie the game up at 2-2. UMC took a 5-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
A solo smash to left field by
Emari Evans in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 5-3 ballgame.
The top of the seventh inning saw
Kelsey Mischel make it a one-run game after drilling a home run over the left-field wall. The Marauders had runners on second and third with two outs.
Emily Schommer hit a line drive to center field that was tracked down and caught for the final out of the game.

GAME 2 |UMC – 3, UMary - 2
Mckenzie Reinhardt opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when she singled to left field, scoring
Kelsey Mischel and
Katelyn Falk.
UMC scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2. The top of the seventh inning saw Emilee Haggadone single to center field to drive in the winning run for the Golden Eagles.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh,
Sariah Perez singled to left field to put the tying run on the bases. UMary failed to capitalize as UMC took the 3-2 victory.
Hannah Chambers started her 16th game of the season, pitching three innings and allowing zero runs on two hits.
